German: occupational name for a shipbuilder from Middle High German schif ‘ship’ + an agent derivative of būwen ‘to build’.
Mike Schiffbauer learned the trade working alongside his father and uncle, who learned it from their father before them. In 1998, after graduating from Penn State University, Mike founded MASSCON, Inc. — and the family tradition continued into another generation.

Masscon operates with an intentionally small field crew. Mike wears both hats — project management and estimating when work needs to be won, boots on the ground when it needs to get done. The crew itself reflects that same commitment — our field employees have been with Masscon between 8 and 26 years. That kind of tenure doesn't happen by accident.
