PROJECT OVERVIEW

A steel heritage corridor

Masscon served as prime contractor and performed the full interior renovation of the Greater Latrobe Junior High School science and corridor wing, honoring the region's steel industry heritage through custom fabricated architectural elements.

The renovation features a curved radius hallway with custom fabricated faux steel trusses spanning overhead, faux steel column covers flush-mounted to walls, and decorative hexagonal bolt heads simulating structural steel connections — all fabricated to the architect's design. Masscon coordinated directly with the fabricator to deliver the design intent in the most practical and economical way possible. The project also included a new exterior entrance canopy with masonry and steel columns, structural steel trusses, standing seam metal roofing, and a custom Greater Latrobe logo sign mounted on the canopy fascia.

Latrobe's real growth as a city began when the Latrobe Steel Works started operating in 1888 — the steel industry quite literally built the town.
