PROJECT OVERVIEW

75,000 SF industrial-to-classroom conversion

Masscon served as prime contractor and self-performed the interior scope on the conversion of a large industrial facility into the WCCC Advanced Technology Center — a state-of-the-art workforce training complex housing industrial education labs, high-STC rated classrooms, employer interview suites, student common areas, and instructor offices.

The project required close coordination between Masscon's interior crew, owner, developer, architect, construction manager, interior designer, multiple primes and sub-trades working within an active industrial shell. Highlights include custom curved acoustic cloud ceilings suspended by stainless steel cable, cantilevered drywall bulkheads, high-STC framed partitions with vibration isolation clips, a custom backlit industrial-style HUB sign designed collaboratively with the architect, and new storefront windows cut into the original masonry exterior wall to bring natural light into the instructor corridor.

Where Volkswagen automobiles once rolled off the assembly line and Sony televisions were later built for living rooms across America, this space has always been a place of making things. When the manufacturers moved on, the building stood ready for its next purpose — one that may be its most important yet. Today, within these same walls, Washington County Community College is assembling something far more valuable than any product: a skilled, adaptable workforce prepared to meet the challenges of a changing economy and an uncertain future.
